Comeback Medvedev Wins First Title in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's initial title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from March of the previous year.
Victory also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led some to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.
The opponent saved four early chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
